JP Morgan Aptitude Tests

In the current job market, many companies are moving towards online aptitude tests as part of their recruitment process. JP Morgan is one of these companies. The reasoning behind this shift is that it allows for a more efficient and cost-effective way to screen candidates.

There are a few different types of online aptitude tests that JP Morgan uses.

JP Morgan numerical reasoning tests

Numerical reasoning tests measure an individual’s ability to understand and manipulate numerical information. These tests are often used as a screening tool for job applicants to identify individuals who may excel in roles that require strong mathematical skills, such as financial analysts or data analysts.

JP Morgan verbal reasoning tests

Verbal reasoning tests evaluate an individual’s ability to understand and analyze written information. They usually consist of reading passages followed by a series of questions. The questions require the test taker to draw conclusions based on the information in the passage so they can select the correct answer.

JP Morgan logical reasoning tests

Logical reasoning tests are designed to assess a candidate’s ability to think logically and analytically. They often involve solving problems or identifying patterns, and require the use of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

JP Morgan situational judgement tests

Situational judgement tests assess a candidate’s ability to make sound judgements in various work-related scenarios.

It consists of multiple-choice questions that are based on real-life situations that JP Morgan employees may encounter in their work. Candidates have to choose the best course of action from four possible options.

Time pressure is what makes these online aptitude tests difficult. This is because the test-takers feel like they have to hurry through the questions.

To prepare for these assessments, candidates should familiarise themselves with the test format. Timed practice aptitude tests are available online and can be used to get an idea of the types of questions that will be asked, and get used to the time limit.

JP Morgan video interview

If you are applying for a student or graduate program, the next stage in the recruitment process is an invitation to participate in a HireVue video interview. This is not an interview conducted over a video call, but rather recording answers to a set of predetermined questions.

The video interview is on-demand, so you can choose to do your video interview at your convenience, as long as it is submitted before the deadline. Before starting the interview, you will have the opportunity to test your microphone and camera to make sure everything is working correctly, and also practice some sample questions so you can get an idea of what to expect.

The interview will consist of around 3–5 competency-based questions, and will typically take around 10–15 minutes to complete. For each question, you will have 30 seconds to prepare, and then between 90 seconds and 3 minutes to respond (depending on the complexity of the question). You will also have the option to re-record your response once.

Before the video interview, it is important to familiarize yourself with the common questions that are asked during these interviews. Reviewing JP Morgan-style banking interview questions and answers will help you feel more comfortable when it comes to the actual interview.

Although you are not being interviewed by a person, it is important to treat it as if you were. This includes dressing professionally and paying attention to your body language, such as maintaining eye contact with the webcam as if you were speaking face-to-face.

If you are applying for a technical role, you may also be required to take part in a technical interview or a series of coding tasks.

JP Morgan interviews

If you are advanced to the final stage of the recruitment process, JP Morgan will be in touch with interview details. This process will typically involve multiple interviews, which may be conducted virtually, over the phone, or face-to-face.

The interviewer is likely to go over your skills, qualifications, and experience, and ask you to elaborate on how this makes you a suitable fit for the position. In these interviews, you are likely to come across competency-based questions, which require you to explain how you have used specific skills in your previous experience and how you approach problems, tasks and challenges.

The best way to prepare for interviews is to think about a variety of relevant examples from your past: for example, in your studies or previous work experience. It is also a good idea to familiarise yourself with the STAR (Situation, Task, Action and Result) approach to answering questions, and apply this to your responses.

You should come prepared with some thoughtful questions of your own to ask the interviewer. Not only does this help you to get a better understanding of the role and the company to ensure it is the right fit for you, but it proves you are prepared and keen.
