Philips is a Dutch conglomerate founded in 1891. Originally an electronics company that started out selling light bulbs, it now operates in sectors including technology, healthcare and medical systems.

I’ve practiced hundreds of numerical questions and still have plenty more to try.

Philips Mechanical Reasoning Test

Those applying for engineering, technical or mechanical jobs at Philips will be asked to take a mechanical reasoning test.

As you’d expect, this test covers mechanical basics and assesses how comfortable you are with concepts such as circuits, gears and electrical principles.

Although a lot of the topics should be things you’re familiar with, it’s still important to prepare beforehand and brush up on any areas you’re not so strong on.

Philips Programming Test

If you’re applying to be a software engineer (or for a similar role) you’ll be required to prove your skills in the Philips programming test.

The subject matter will depend on the role but expect questions that probe your knowledge and ability to work with Java, DS and SQL, to name but a few.

Philips Logical Reasoning Test

Logical reasoning tests are used in the hiring process across a huge range of different roles as they can be a really useful indicator of how strong a problem solver or logical thinker a candidate is.

The logical reasoning test requires you to answer non-verbal and non-numerical questions to draw logical conclusions and assume answers from seemingly random patterns, shapes or objects.

It’s not easy, especially if you’ve never encountered questions like this before. It’s highly recommended that you try as many tests out as you need to before your Philips test, so you start to improve your speed, accuracy and confidence.

Philips Interviews

If you pass the selection of aptitude tests set for you, you’ll be invited to interview(s).

How many interviews you’re asked to participate in is dependent on the role you’re applying for, but you’re normally always interviewed by the talent acquisition team first.

They’ll ask you questions about your background, and how your skills and experience are relevant to the job you’re applying for. They’ll also ask you about your long-term career aspirations, and may even suggest other roles at Philips if they think you’re better suited to something else.

Then, you may be asked back for an interview with the hiring manager and members of the team for a final chat and the last opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

Practice Aptitude Tests is not associated with Philips. We provide preparation services for Philips psychometric tests. Our tests are not designed to be identical to any style, employer or industry. Visit https://www.careers.philips.com/global/en to find out more.

When presented with a complex circuit diagram consisting of resistors in series and parallel, how would you go about calculating the total resistance?

  • Add the resistance values of all resistors, regardless of their configuration.
  • Calculate the sum of inverses of resistance for resistors in parallel and add it to the sum of resistances in series.
  • Multiply the highest individual resistance by the total number of resistors in the circuit.
  • Identify the resistor with the lowest resistance as it will dictate the total resistance of the circuit.
  • Use Ohm's law for each resistor individually and add up the voltages to find the total resistance.

If a lever system is not in equilibrium, which of the following adjustments could be made to achieve balance?

  • Increase the length of the lever arm on the side that is lower.
  • Place a heavier weight on the side of the lever that is higher.
  • Decrease the distance of the weight from the fulcrum on the side that is higher.
  • Increase the force applied on the side that is lower.
  • Move the fulcrum closer to the center of the lever arm.

A set of data shows the patient recovery rates for different medical procedures. What formula would you use to calculate the average recovery rate for a single procedure?

  • Sum of all individual recovery rates divided by the number of procedures
  • Multiply the highest recovery rate by the number of patients
  • Total number of patients across all procedures divided by the number of procedures
  • Subtract the lowest recovery rate from the highest and then divide by two

Which statement best captures the main idea of the following text? 'New advancements in medical imaging have revolutionized the way physicians diagnose and treat illnesses. The cutting-edge technologies not only improve accuracy but also reduce the need for invasive procedures.'

  • Medical imaging has become more accurate and less invasive due to recent technological progress.
  • Physicians are reluctant to adopt new medical imaging technologies.
  • Invasive procedures are preferred over medical imaging.
  • Technological advancements have had little impact on medical imaging.

Based on logical deduction, which statement would be true if 'All medical devices require electricity to operate' is true?

  • Any equipment without electricity is not a medical device.
  • Medical devices that use batteries do not require electricity.
  • If a device requires electricity, it may or may not be a medical device.
