There are different formats of a verbal reasoning test. Mostly, the questions are based on situations that are given in the form of short passages. You are asked to answer the questions based on these situations. You will answer the questions in the form of true, false, or cannot say statements. Or sometimes individual options will be given along with the question, and you have to choose the correct one among them. The problems or passages won’t be related to the job. The queries will be more rational than practical. Moreover, these thinking tests are conducted under strict time conditions. It is because to test your capability of reading, comprehending, processing, and answering logically to different questions within the allocated time.
Step 1: Focus only on the given data
Verbal thinking tests have approximately five to ten information-based sentences about different topics. These passages vary depending upon the job you have applied for in the company. You have to read the passage carefully as the answer is hidden within the content. Examiners will be pleased if you only use the information that is given within the passage. Try not to add unnecessary details. Answer the questions to the point and precisely.
Step 2: Manage your time
According to the requirements of a particular job, verbal thinking tests are conducted under timed conditions. This can have a negative impact on your capability of answering the questions logically. That is why you should read a question about two to three times. In this way, you will be able to find the correct option and eliminate the wrong ones. The most crucial thing is the management of time. Before giving the test, you have to roughly calculate how much time you can spend on solving a question. Try to save time at the end of the paper so that you can analyze your answers before submitting your test.
If your test doesn’t have the option of going back to the previous question, then you should select the possible answer to the questions asked in the paper. You should prepare yourself for the interview as well, by studying different questions and practicing them under timed conditions.
Step 3: Read the passage carefully
The questions in these skill tests also have irrelevant information, but that doesn’t mean you have to read the statements hurriedly. Read the passage carefully without skipping any line or word. By reading the full passage, you will understand what it is asking, and in this way, you will be able to answer it more easily. Read the questions thoroughly so that you don’t miss out any detail. Every word is important.
Step 4: Complicated queries
These skill tests also include some tricky questions that are phrased vaguely to confuse your thinking process. Therefore clarity is important. Read the question/statement again and again until you understand what it is asking or otherwise the answer will appear indefinable. Spend time on understanding the problem. Likewise, train yourself of recognizing tricky queries by practicing sample tests regularly. Practicing model tests will increase your knowledge and improve your speed.
Step 5: Don’t panic
As these tests have a time duration, you may get tense. But don’t stress too much that it affects your performance severely. Try to stay calm and read your papers with a clear mind. Practice relaxation exercises such as taking deep breaths; this way, your confidence will boost up, and you can answer logically. Read the instructions carefully, as it will help you in answering the questions. Due to unnecessary anxiety, your concepts will jumble up, and you will be confused while writing answers.
