A situational judgement test can be defined as a psychological aptitude test which identifies your judgement to solve an issue. While you are employed in an organization, you will be faced with several problems. Your approach towards those problems will be crucial for the company. When you apply for a job, the company seeks to know how you will react to any problem. The tests will give candidates several hypothetical scenarios that he may face at the workplace. The candidate will be interacting with others in a team and have to deal with several problems. In the test, the candidate will be given with many possible answers in multiple-choice formats. And, those who give the best answers during the test will be selected by the company.

Step 1: Identify the problem

You should be able to diagnose a problem in the best possible way. When you face a particular situation, identify the root cause of the problem. Find out the real issue in general. You should be able to know the crucial element of the problem that requires addressing it. The moment you find it out, you can easily implement the most effective solution.

Step 2: Know the organization

It will go a long way when you know the organization where you are applying for a job. Find out what the organization value the most. Take a quick look at the organization’s core competencies. You may find a statement about what it desires to see in their employees. The company may give more emphasis on open and two-way communication. The company may give more preference to a formal style. Read all these details as it will help you give the right answers in your SJT.

Step 3: Read carefully without any distraction

It is important that you read carefully and get a good understanding of all the scenarios. There will not be anything worse than knowing the scenario but you got it wrong because you were in a hurry. Some questions in the SJT are purposely unclear, especially in phrasing. So be very alert and careful in comprehending the problem or scenario before rushing to any conclusion.

Step 4: Select the right approach

When you are replying to the various scenarios during the test, make sure you select the correct approach. Pick up only that approach which you would like to implement in real life while tackling the issue. Never select that approach which will suit the taste of others at the workplace.

Step 5: Time management

As you will be faced with several questions during the situational judgement test, it is important to manage your time. So do not spend too much time or too less time in one scenario. Create a balance and spend time accordingly on each question.

Step 6: Consider all consequences

It is of paramount importance to consider various consequences while selecting an answer to the given scenario. You may also ask the foundation trainees on how they would handle certain scenarios.
